2 weeks ago I played in a 10 hour chess tournament at Chess Palace. I did pretty well and won four out of four games and $100. They put me on their home page as a featured player. Have a look at their site.

Chess & New Photos

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Earlier this evening I played in  a chess tournament over at Chess Palace. I really love this place – nice people and totally devoted to chess!

Last week I went down to Santa Monica and made more photographs of the players. It was a very hot morning, but the light was better than usual. Normally I arrive at around 3-4pm and on this day I got there at 12pm. Since its winter time the sun was low on the horizon and it still was somewhat on the eastern side of the sky. It’s really painful to blow out the pier and the carousel because the sun is behind my subjects. And the key to fixing that is to arrive in the moring in either fall or spring. Here are 2 of the best photos from that day.

SFSU Video

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

During my business degree, I was able to contribute to my team by creating a video that comments on the ‘Nature of People.’ I am certainly not a video guy, but my dad had a Sony VX2100 and I had to put it to good use. From this experience, I have learned a bit about video editing and plan to continue to hone these skills.

Surrounding Yourself

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I recently made a move from Three Rivers to Huntington Beach. I am finding that the move has really displaced many of the things that I love to do. I am very pleased to see wind in my business sail, but my photography is falling behind. To get back on track I will listen to all the current episodes of my favorite photography podcasts including: TWIP, thoughts on photography, the candid frame, the radiant vista and camera position. These inspiring podcasts can all be seen at www.photocastnetwork.com.

Tip of the Post: Make your money, then shoot your photos.
