Fly Fishing in Vancouver | Sasamat Lake and Chilliwack

Written by admin on July 12th, 2009

I had the pleasure to go into Michael and Young Fly Shop and got some good information about fly fishing in Vancouver. For all those coming to see the 2010 Olympics and you want to get your fishing in, this post is for you. There are several fresh water fishing spots around Vancouver. Two of the closest lakes are Sasamat Lake & Buntzen Lake.

There is a floating bridge that connects the two sides of Sasamat lake. The Lake is quite big and there’s often a lot of recreation sports going on. Perfect for a walk in the woods with the family. But I won’t say that it’s that great for fishing. It’s land locked and gets lots of pressure. If you’re in the Vancouver area and looking for fly fishing I would highly suggest Chilliwack. It’s about a 50 minute drive to the Chilliwack River/ Vedder River.

I got several bites with a dry fly in about 30 minutes. There have been several large Salmon pulled out of this river. Another suggestion I got with regards to fly fishing in Vancouver is Mike Lake. This is a bit deeper in the bush than Sasamat Lake or Buntzen Lake and is basically in the same direction from Vancouver.
